A woman from Zimbabwe named Betty Mbereko and her son Farai fell in love and have been a couple for several years. The woman's husband died and in their culture it is very important to keep sex within marriage. The son was worried about his mother being accused of promiscuity and she felt she deserved some respect for sending him to school, and the two became lovers. She became pregnant and wanted to marry him, instead of being put into an arranged marriage with a man she did not love. They were forced to flee the village:
